It happened around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in Ridley Park, borough police said in a statement.
The employee, 31-year-old Frank Daniels, was on the 200 block of West Hinckley Avenue when he was struck and fatally injured, said police and sanitation company JP Mascaro and Sons.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed that they are investigating the death and noted that JP Mascaro and Sons has no past OSHA inspection history.
The company shared a statement with Daily Voice:
"Available information indicates that the accident happened (Tuesday) around noon when the collection truck was backing on Hinckley Avenue and came in contact with Mr. Daniels," management said.
"No other vehicles were involved," they said. "Emergency personnel were immediately contacted and the Ridley Park Police Department is conducting a detailed accident investigation, which includes speaking with the other helper and the truck driver, as well as company management personnel."
According to its website, JP Mascaro has been the Ridley Park Borough sanitation contractor since at least 2018, when the company and municipal leaders signed an $800,000 deal.
